Frequently Asked Questions

Is a Cavalier right for me and my family?

We have had all kinds of pets and believe that there isn’t one any better than the Cavalier. They adapt to the owners lifestyle almost instantly. If you lay on the couch they lay on the couch, if you go for a hike they go for a hike. You just won’t find a dog more determined to make you love them. That said!! Cavaliers don’t do well when left alone for a long period of time. If you aren’t home much and don’t have much free time we have two recommendations. First DON’T buy a Cavalier, buy a more independent breed. OR, buy two Cavaliers…Cavaliers love companionship, yours or another dog. If you have to work and leave the dog alone we recommend that you get two so that they may keep each other company. We feel so strongly about this that we actually offer a discount if you buy two together.

Are Cavaliers good with children?

Cavaliers adore children. Their gentle nature and desire for constant companionship make them perfect for children. We have 3 children and each has their very own Cavalier that dotes after them like a parent. Our youngest child is almost a year old and Sonia has adopted her as her very own human pet. They all adore the baby, but Sonia thinks of her as her own. They follow her constantly and she believes that she is a Cavalier.

Would an older Cavalier make a good pet? Do you ever have any available?

Yes! Cavaliers are known for their attitude of “LOVE THE ONE YOU ARE WITH” and they do just that. Within an hour a Cavalier will be completely in love with you no matter their age or yours. We do occasionally place an older dog for one reason or another. If you are interested in this please contact us.

Can my Cavalier live outside?

We don’t believe that outside is the place for a Cavalier. They just don’t do well as kennel dogs. We are in the process of building an all suite kennel (actual mini-rooms for 2 dogs) attached to our home so that we can put the dogs in their rooms at night and when we have clients over. It is extremely hard to show a puppy to someone with 10 dogs running in and out. Our dogs are part of our family and live with us; this said we believe that if you want an outside dog you should really consider another breed. They however do love to visit outside.

How much grooming is necessary for a Cavalier?

If you brush out your dog once a week you will find that they require little to no additional grooming. Nails and the hair between the pads should be trimmed once a month. We only bathe our Cavaliers once a month and some every other month. It depends on your environment and the individual dog. Too much bathing will dry out the skin and coat. Cavaliers are naturally clean dogs and keeping them free of parasites and brushed regularly will help them to remain that way. ALWAYS use dog shampoo to prevent drying of the coat. Be sure to thoroughly dry the ears of your Cavalier with a blow dryer (not on hot) as the ear feathering is very thick and can take hours to dry allowing your Cavalier to catch a chill.

How do we get one of your puppies?

The best way to get one of our puppies is to place a deposit and wait for your puppy to arrive. For details please go to the deposit page. You are always welcome to go on our wait list. The wait list will be notified when puppies arrive that aren’t already spoken for. You can also take a chance that we will have a litter and all puppies won’t be sold and at about 4-6 weeks we will place their individual pictures on the website for sale. The choice is yours!!!

Will you ship your puppies? How much is shipping?

We prefer that you pick up your pup in person, but yes we are willing to ship our puppies. WE ONLY SHIP PUPPIES THAT ARE ATLEAST 10 WEEKS OLD. Shipping generally runs between $200-$275 and includes a crate that will last them until adulthood.

Do you guarantee your dogs?

YES! All of our puppies come with a health guarantee…See Guarantee Page for Actual Guarantee. All of our breeding dogs are screened for genetic defects and health concerns with our veterinarian every year. Any dog found to have a problem is immediately removed from our breeding program. Our dogs do not get a quick once over, but instead a thorough examination. We WILL NOT breed a dog that is not true to the breed standard in both temperament and look. We have been very selective with our breeding stock and have had NO HEALTH concerns to date.

How much are puppies? How are they registered?

All of our dogs are AKC registerable. Some have double  registrations, but we believe that most people are familiar with and trust the AKC, so we have made that our Kennel Club of choice.

We are primarily raising puppies for companionship, but believe that if we get the best show quality breeding stock that the result will be the best pets available with an occasional show prospect and breeding quality stock. Therefore our price depends on the puppy. To give you an idea generally pet puppies are $1,500 and show puppies are $2,500, while breeding stock is priced case by case. We put a lot of love and care into these puppies and believe that we are raising some of the best Cavaliers available. We do offer discounts to individuals wishing to purchase two puppies together. We believe that Cavaliers do much better with another Cavalier and try to encourage our clients to get two. ALSO, if you are new to Cavaliers you will soon find that one is never enough. See individual puppies and litters for more pricing information. Inquire on a case by case basis for show and breeding rights.

Do you give breeding rights?

Yes, on occasion we do give breeding rights, but we are very selective. It isn’t because we don’t want others to breed these wonderful dogs, but we want to know their intentions are genuine. Making money is no reason to breed. Most of the time between vet care and health screening and the actual purchase of breeding stock, building and maintaining a facility to house the dogs, food and TIME you rarely break even on a litter. Cavaliers like all breeds have health problems that we as breeders have to be concerned about and uneducated breeding will lead to the destruction of the breed as we know and love it.

How can I pay for my puppy?

We accept money orders, cashier’s checks, personal checks, and cash for the deposit. Cash is required for the balance of the puppy which is due at pick-up. We are checking into paypal and will post when that is available.
